If beauty myths were movies, they’d be the longest-running franchise ever. Every generation just adds a new episode, new cast, same nonsense. Our moms told us one thing, social media says another, and somewhere in between, we’re just trying to figure out whether coconut oil really does fix everything. Let’s laugh our way through ten of the funniest, most unbelievable beauty and body myths women still hear today.

1. Shaving makes your hair grow back thicker

Ah yes, the legendary shaving myth. Every girl who’s ever picked up a razor has probably heard this one. The truth is shaving doesn’t change your hair texture or thickness. It just feels coarser when it grows back because it’s cut straight across, not because your body suddenly turned into a beard factory.

2. Dark-skinned girls shouldn’t wear bright lipstick

Bold colours look amazing on dark skin! Whether it’s red, fuchsia, orange, or purple, name it! The rule is simple, if you love it, wear it. Confidence is the best shade there is.

3. You’ll stunt your growth if you start wearing heels early

We’ve been wearing heels since secondary school parties, and guess what? We didn’t shrink only our tolerance for pain did. Heels don’t affect your bones or height; they just affect how long you can dance before your feet cry for help.

4. Stretch marks mean you will be fat

This one deserves an award for “Most Random Myth of All Time.” Stretch marks don’t mean you’ll get fat, they mean your body’s been growing, changing, or just doing its thing. You can get them from puberty, pregnancy, weight gain, muscle growth, or even a sudden growth spurt. They’re not a sign of what’s coming!

5. Natural hair isn’t professional

Some people still think a woman’s hair has to be bone straight to be “office ready.” Meanwhile, curls, afros, locs, and twists are literally art. Your natural hair doesn’t need permission to show up in a boardroom, just show up and slay!

6. Light skin equals beauty

This outdated idea needs to be locked away forever. Beauty comes in every shade. From the deepest melanin to the lightest tones. The glow isn’t in your complexion; it’s in your confidence.

7.Your body must ‘bounce back’ after childbirth

Women grow whole humans, and the body that did that deserves medals, not pressure. “Bouncing back” is overrated. Healing, resting, and embracing your new normal, that’s the real flex.

So, the next time someone tries to hit you with a “beauty fact” that sounds suspicious, just ignore them and do you, girl!
